about

The songs were originally recorded in the mid 80s as backing tracks to the Mr Liquorice and the Moving Staircase stage extravaganza. Here they appear with newly added vocals, tweaks and in some cases re-inventions as a document of this bizarre performer's work.

'Mr. Liquorice produces a sound that’s as multicoloured as you’d expect. Like John Shuttleworth jamming with ‘In The Studio’-era The Specials, opening track ‘Get Me A Car’ is suitably surreal and comes awash with retro synths for that good LSD vibe. Much of this music exists in a dreamlike netherworld with ‘Shadow Boxing’ being nimble on its feet and ‘Dream In The Subway’ a piece of Weimar cabaret beamed to the stars, bounced back by satellite and performed by a futuristic jazz band.'
